Happy New Year!!!
It is exciting to live in 2008, when everyone thought the world would end in 2000… Well, I guess no one knows the exact hour that the Lord is returning, and the best thing we can do is to occupy until He comes. We just keep on doing what He told us to do and that is to “Go into all the world and proclaim the gospel to the whole creation.” (Mark 16:18) That is what we will continue to do in 2008.
Unrest in Kenya
Thank God that He also said “I am with you always, to the end of the age.” (Matt 28:20) Due to the presidential election on December 27, there have been riots and tribal killings as the parties accuse each others of election fraud. Kenya is a country that consists of many different tribes, and the tribal loyalty is greater than loyalty to one’s country. Since the presidential candidates come from different tribes, and there is strong evidence that the election process did not proceed as it should, various people, especially youths and those living in the slums have used the occasion to release their anger on each other. Many stores in the larger cities have been burnt down or looted. The situation has improved somewhat from the days following the election, but there is still tension across the country. In praying about the situation, we have peace about completing the school in Kanamai as planned. Please pray with us about the current situation in Kenya that unrest will cease and the situation in government will stabilize. Pray also that transportation will be available and roads open so Vidar can reach his destination. Due to the uproar, there have been shortages of fuel and food, and the prices have increased some. People had to stay inside for several days and suffered some financial losses. In order to help these people in their current situation, we are making the school free of charge this time. We know that God will provide all that we need.
Last Module and Graduation
We are currently finishing up our last module in Kanamai and will graduate our first class on February 2. Pastor Meni is currently teaching the first week of this module, and Vidar is heading for Kenya on Friday 18 to start teaching the 21. We are very excited about graduating our first class. The students are very proud to be able to graduate and have been planning the reception for over 3 months now..!
