A Pastor Testifies
We continually hear testimonies from our students and our pastors about the quality of the school, and the results that they are seeing in their ministries. One evening, Vidar received this text message from Pst. Stephen Mutoni:
“Safari Bible School has brought big change in the church. Church is increasing day by day. The faith lessons have made me and the church to be somebody from nobody.”
In meeting with him, he explains that he has met several other students of more expensive and some well-known bible colleges. In comparing notes, the students of the other schools are saying that Safari Bible School is covering more relevant subjects and is more in-depth than what they are learning at the other schools. Now, Pastor Mutoni has decided that before he will put any minister on staff, they must first attend Safari Bible School.
Family Teaching Well Received
Because of the cultural divide, marriage and family is not always the easiest subject to deal with from the pulpit. But one Sunday, Vidar ministered in a church on the marriage relationship. He began in Genesis explaining how God intended marriage to be, and giving examples from African culture how to apply the principles in daily life. Many came and were grateful for the teachings. A young husband said “You have showed some areas where I have missed it.” Also some of the respected elders came and said “We wish we had the opportunity to know this when we were younger. We have made many mistakes, but we were just ignorant.”
Thursday before Vidar arrived, one of the students in Kisumu had received a report that her father was seriously ill. He was writhing in pain, and could not find any position to ease the pain, whether he was standing, laying or sitting. So the student decided to travel to her home village that evening. But first, Pastor Meni and the students prayed for her father. When she arrived home, she found him in a chair, all happy. “We have been praying for you,” she told her father. “At what time,” asked the Father. He learned it had been at 3 o’clock, exactly at the same time when the pain had left him.
Land Purchase and Office Building
As work is growing, it is apparent that the little plot we have for the garage is too small. We need a permanent office with a manager, and also a place where we can stay when we are in Mombasa for longer periods. We have found a plot that is suitable, and in a good location where the land will appreciate.
The estimated cost of the land and first phase of building is:
|0.25 acre of land:||KSh 500,000||$ 7,700|
|Security Fencing (165 yards)||KSh 400,000||$ 6,200|
|3 bedroom Apartment (700 sq. ft)||KSh 700,000||$10,800|
|Guest Apartment / Office (550 sq.ft.)||KSh 550,000||$8,500|
As you can see in the plan below, the plot has room for a future expansion with a house and an office complex.
In Addition, we want to help Pastor Meni build his house. He is currently staying in an unsafe area where Muslims own much of the land. He has witnessed his closest neighbors been robbed by armed mobs. Now he has a piece of land adjacent to what we are buying and we want to help build his house there. The plans are estimated at $15,000 for approximately 1000 sq. ft.
If you would like to donate towards the land purchase and building, make sure you mark “Vidar Ligard – Building” in the memo line of your check.
