Many non-profit organizations help the poor in various ways. There are many programs to benefit the poor and help people who are poor. Not all programs seem to be equally effective in actually bringing people out of poverty on a permanent basis. That is one of the things that Safari Mission, a non-profit missions organization in Tulsa, seeks to do and have proven to do for a number of years already. Instead of handing out money or goods to people who are poor, Safari Mission invests in educating people on what is needed in order to get out of poverty. As a non-profit missions organization, Safari Mission trains people in work ethics, financial stewardship, Biblical generosity, and entrepreneurship on a Biblical foundation along, with other traditional Biblical topics and leadership. You might wonder why we are so adamant about not giving out free stuff to poor people? It is because we do not want to create a dependency upon foreign aid, but rather train people to be self-motivated and handle their finances correctly. In the Bible, we see Solomon teach one of many Biblical principles.
Go to the ant, O sluggard;
consider her ways, and be wise.
Without having any chief,
officer, or ruler,
she prepares her bread in summer
and gathers her food in harvest.
How long will you lie there, O sluggard?
When will you arise from your sleep?
1A little sleep, a little slumber,
a little folding of the hands to rest,
and poverty will come upon you like a robber,
and want like an armed man.
Prov 6: 6-11
At the end of these verses, it is talking about poverty. Poverty is not the lack of money. Poverty is a mindset that results in the lack of money. That is why Safari Mission is a non-profit mission organization that focuses on teaching people how to change their thinking in order to change their lives. We believe that poverty can be fixed by teaching people how to think differently, that results in acting differently, and that can get people permanently out of poverty. If you have a poor person win the lottery, usually within six months, they’re in a worse state than what they were before they won the lottery. So you can take a poor person and give him a lot of money, but the problem is they don’t know how to handle money and that’s why they don’t have money.
So you can take a rich person, you can remove all the money and it’s going to be a matter of time. You’re going to find a way to get money again. Why? Because having something is a mindset. It’s a way of thinking, a way of speaking, a way of doing, which causes you to go somewhere in life. Poverty also as a mindset, which it doesn’t matter what you do with the poor person, as long as they have a poverty mentality, as long as they keep thinking that same way, they’re going to remain poor no matter how much stuff you give them. This is why Safari Mission is a non-profit mission organization based in Tulsa that does not believe in handouts. From what we have seen in Kenya, handouts just make people poorer than they were before. We have been to the remote places that the UN have given a lot of foreign aid and we have seen how the people have quit sowing and tilling their land because they only wait for the UN to come and feed them when there is no money around. At Safari Mission, we believe that a non-profit missions organization can educate people to help themselves and when they are given the power of knowledge, they are able to work themselves out of poverty and bring entire communities out of poverty. We have seen pastors make such a big impact in their communities after being trained by Safari Mission that it has completely transformed entire East African communities. Businesses have been started, schools have opened to give children a good education, and people’s lives have improved drastically. At Safari Mission, we believe in educating people to improve their lives and make a positive impact on society. Based out of Tulsa, Oklahoma, Safari Mission is a non-profit mission organizations that trains leaders and transforms people in East Africa to live a better life with the gospel of Jesus Christ as the foundation of everything they do.
As a part of the Great Commission that Jesus gave the church found in Matt 28:12-20
And Jesus came and said to them, “All authority in heaven and on earth has been given to me. Go therefore and make disciples of all nations, baptizing them in[a] the name of the Father and of the Son and of the Holy Spirit, teaching them to observe all that I have commanded you. And behold, I am with you always, to the end of the age.
Safari Mission believes that the results of being a non-profit missions organization that seeks to fulfill this commission, we should educate people in all areas of life according to Biblical principles and helping people out of poverty by teaching them self-motivation, work ethics, and financial stewardship. It is part of bringing people the whole gospel. Training people to change their thinking is much more challenging and difficult than just handing out money or other goods, but we believe that as a non-profit mission organization, we have a responsibility to help people live better lives and not just keeping them stuck in their poverty
